Morning Preparations: Gear Loadout for Glacier Research
To kickstart our day, we loaded the essential gear onto the WP&YR train. With everything packed, including chainsaws and hiking essentials, we were ready for the trail maintenance ahead.

Breathtaking Views During Train Ride
As the train departed, we enjoyed breathtaking views, paving the way for our journey into the Alaska’s wilderness.
Start Hike: Challenging Conditions in Rotten Snow
Beginning our hike, we faced very rotten snow, which made for a challenging yet “exhilarating” adventure.

Trail Maintenance: First Tree Cut Required
Our team tackled a 14″ spruce tree, a testament to the rigorous maintenance necessary to keep our trails clear. Captured in before and after photos, this task showcased our ongoing commitment to preserving access to the glacier.

Second Round: Efficient Clearance of the Trail
Further along the trail, we dealt with 2× 12″ spruce and 1 8″ birch. Our diligent efforts were documented in before and after photos, capturing the transformations achieved during our trek.

Hike Conclusion: Snow Trudging Success
Concluding our hike, we felt the aftermath of trudging through a veritable snow cone. The challenges only added to the experience, underscoring the need to not skip leg day.
Trailhead Lunch: Alaska’s Flavors at Glacier Coffeehouse
At the trailhead, we rested and enjoyed a delightful Glacier Coffeehouse sandwich. This charming break provided a much-needed respite amidst our adventurous day.

Scenic Train Ride Back to Skagway
Our journey closed with a scenic train ride aboard the WP&YR Railroad, providing mesmerizing views of the Alaskan landscape as we returned to Skagway.
