Early Morning on the Laughton Glacier Trail
Embarking on our journey from the trailhead, the conditions were typical of Alaskan wilderness—a temperature of 6.3°C with overcast skies and a touch of light rain. Visibility was moderate, perfect weather for the start of our hike as we navigated the threads of nature.
Drizzle at the Lookout
As we reached the lookout, it was clear that the elements were taking their toll, with the temperature dropping to 4.7°C. The air was saturated with 100% humidity, enhancing the ethereal feel of the Laughton Glacier’s vista under overcast skies. Visibility remained moderate as the drizzle continued.
At ‘Stonehenge’ with Light Rain
Stopping at the site known affectionately as ‘Stonehenge’, conditions shifted slightly to a temperature of 4.3°C. The light rain persisted, and with poor visibility, it was a reminder of how quickly mountain weather can change. Determined and prepared, we continued our expedition.
Arriving at Glacier Toe
The hike towards the glacier toe presented increasingly colder conditions, with temperatures falling to 2.0°C. The drizzle thickened the air, making each step on the glacier more deliberate under the unrelenting overcast skies. Visibility was moderate, encapsulating the pristine wilderness of the Laughton Glacier.
Return to Trailhead with Persistent Drizzle
As we concluded our expedition back at the trailhead, a temperature of 5.6°C wrapped up the day’s journey. Humidity held at 100%, and the constant drizzle underscored the overcast dominance throughout the Laughton Glacier Trail. It was a day well-spent amidst the raw allure of Alaska’s serene landscapes.
