Weather Insights at the Trailhead
The day began with broken clouds offering excellent visibility, a perfect setting for our Laughton Glacier adventure in Alaska. The temperature was a mild 15.8°C, with humidity at 67.3%. The calm winds hinted at a tranquil start to our journey.

The hike commenced with a full tour group of six, including a family of four and a father-son duo. Spirits were high as we set foot on the trail, eager to explore the wonders of this glacial landscape.

Close to the first river, we had the thrilling sight of a rare slime mold. This fungus, often unnoticed, added an exciting start to our nature sightings and provided a unique insight into the biodiversity of the Laughton Glacier area.
Second Sighting: Slime Mold at River Cut-Off
Further along the trail, near the second river cut-off, we encountered another slime mold, similar to sightings from the previous week. These fungi continue to fascinate, highlighting the lush undergrowth of the glacier environment.
Stonehenge Weather Conditions
Reaching the area known as Stonehenge, we experienced a slight drop in temperature to 13.5°C with humidity at 69.5%. Although broken clouds persisted, the visibility remained excellent, offering panoramic views of the surrounding glacier-scape.
Overcast at the Glacier Toe
By the time we reached the glacier toe, the weather turned overcast, with temperatures at a refreshing 9.9°C. The atmospheric conditions and excellent visibility provided a perfect backdrop for detailed observations of the glacier’s magnificent form.

Upon returning to the trailhead, the overcast skies contributed to a drizzle, with the temperature settling at 14.1°C. This final weather check marked the end of a rewarding day exploring the Laughton Glacier’s natural splendor.
